Raising awareness

From participating in Parkinson's Awareness Week to speaking to just a few people, we like to let people know about what we do. Here are a few examples.

We are on show at Oxford Older People's Day every October in the Town Hall, where we form links with other voluntary bodies as well as informing members of the public about Parkinson's and the help that is available for those affected by it.

Our Research Officer, Dr Kevin McFarthing, has a high profile in the Parkinson’s world as Clinical Trials Highlights editor of the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease. He also maintains the Hope List of therapies currently in development and clinical trial.

Sally Bromley, our Branch Ambassador, regularly makes presentations to medical and pharmacy students at Oxford and Reading Universities, and has spoken to nurses, care home staff and many others at various events.

Each summer we hold a cake and produce sale at a Saturday morning church coffee stall in Summertown, not only raising more than £500 but also filling the Banbury Road street scene with Parkinson’s publicity material! We also have a prominent stall at the same location for Summertown URC's charity Christmas Fair every November.
